| Supermarine Spitfire |
| In World War Two the Spitfire became the most
dreaded fighter of the Luftwaffe, distinguishing
itself early in combat in the skies over the
southern counties of England in the Battle of
Britain. Numerous marks of the aircraft were
produced as the war waged on and it served well into
the ‘50s before being retired. A handful have been
restored to airworthiness condition, and, to this
day, thrill crowds at aerial displays. The aircraft
shown here is on an early morning patrol over the
southern coast. |
