| Canadair IV North Star |
| The Canadair IV North Star, first produced in
1946, was used by the Royal Canadian Air Force from
Korean War days up until late 1963. Basically a DC-4
airframe, it was modified to accommodate Rolls Royce
Merlin power plants, giving it a better performance
envelope. It was the workhorse of Transport Command,
carrying troops and ordnance to RCAF and UN
theatres of operation around the world. Shown here
is 17504, about to land at El Arish, Egypt, whilst
on UN duty during the Suez crisis. |
